Memory Consultation Services
People are living longer than they ever have in today’s society. Protecting the brain as much as possible from deterioration is as important as maintaining physical health in terms of maintaining quality of life and independent living as we age. Research clearly shows that if memory loss is caught in its early stages, current treatments can add years of quality, independent living to an individual.
The standard test done in most medical offices, called the mini-mental status examination, or MMSE for short, is not sensitive enough to pick up subtle changes in memory. By the time an individual shows deficits, they are well on the way to significant problems. Dr Stepkovitch utilizes a more comprehensive, sensitive series of assessments which can pick up changes in memory right at the beginning stages, before significant damage has been done to the brain.
As part of the evaluation, Dr Stepkovitch will also thoroughly review your medical history, medications, and life habits, and will help formulate an individualized plan to help you maximize the odds of going through the latter decades of life living independently. Many medications are known to increase fall risk, worsen memory, or even increase the odds of developing dementia or delirium. Dr. Stepkovitch will look to help ensure that the medication regimen you are on is safe, appropriate, and will not increase your risk of having problems in the future.
